The six degrees of separation theory states that anyone in the world can be linked to anyone else through at most six 'links', i.e. people they have a connection with. So Joe Bloggs the paperboy from Mitcham might have a friend at school called Dan, who's been on holiday to America, and whilst he was there Dan might have met a relative of his brother's girlfriend called Julie. Julie might be a schoolteacher who has a little girl called Sally in one of her classes. Sally, who's family used to be quite rich, might have once lived next door to a boy called Tony, whose father Gregg was a business partner of the then-governor of Arkansas who is now president.
